The tracking template
To count clicks, Clickbreaker installs a tracking template on your Google Ads account. It looks like this:
Four parameters, and nothing else:
- cid
- The campaign ID, supplied by Google. It tells us which campaign to count, and which one to pause if the threshold is crossed.
- aid
- The ad group ID, supplied by Google. It tells us where inside the campaign the click came from.
- g
- The Google click ID. We use it so the same click is never counted twice.
- lp
- Your landing page. This is the transparency parameter: it is the address the visitor is sent to, and the only one.
What we do with your landing page
We send the visitor to the address in lp, exactly as it is. We add no parameter, remove none, change none. The parameters you put there yourself — your UTMs, your own tracking IDs — arrive on your site untouched.
We never redirect to an address stored on our side. The destination is always the one Google places in lp at the moment of the click.
A closed redirect, not an open one
Before redirecting, we check that the destination belongs to your account. We collect those domains from the final URLs of your ads, and we match the exact hostname — not a fragment of the address.
If the destination is not one of yours, we do not redirect. This keeps our tracking address from being used to send people somewhere else.
We accept only http and https, and the redirect happens server-side, in a single step, through no intermediate domain.
What we keep
For each click we record the campaign ID, the ad group ID, the Google click ID and the timestamp. We set no cookies, we do not follow visitors from one site to another, and we build no advertising profile.
The details are in our privacy policy.
